Privacy Policy
Stories of Shinobu (the “Game”) is made by J&A Interactive (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the Game collects, why, who else receives it, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and plain. If anything is unclear, write to us at storiesofshinobu@gmail.com.
1. The short version
- You can play as a guest. If you want, you can create a login (a username and password you choose) so your progress is backed up and you can move to a new phone. We never ask for your real name, email address, phone number or exact location.
- Your character and progress are saved on your device. If you have created a login, a copy is also kept in cloud storage so you can restore it. The Game also stores the small amount of data needed for the online “Order” (clan) feature, Arena rankings and player chat.
- You can delete your account and its online data at any time from inside the Game (Settings > Account > Delete), or by email. See how to delete your account.
- The Game shows optional rewarded video ads and offers optional in-app purchases. Our advertising and payment partners handle some information themselves, as described below.
- The Game is for players aged 13 and over.
2. What we collect
| Information | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Player ID. A random ID generated the first time you play (Unity Authentication). It is not linked to your name or email. | To recognise you so your Order membership, Arena ranking and cloud save work, and so we can find your data if you ask us to delete it. | Your device and Unity’s servers |
| Login details (optional). If you create a login: the username you choose and your password. Passwords are handled by Unity Authentication; we never see or store your password in readable form. | So you can sign in again on a new phone and get your cloud save back. | Unity Authentication |
| Cloud save (only if you create a login). A copy of your game progress (character, items, currencies, settings and tutorial progress), plus the time it was saved, your level, a short progress summary and a random ID for the device that saved it. | To restore your progress on a new or reinstalled device, and to warn you before one device overwrites another. | Unity Cloud Save (private to your player ID) |
| Arena data: your player ID, display name, level, Arena rating, rank and recent match results, power score, and the character look shown to opponents. | To run the Arena ladder and show you to other players as an opponent. | Unity Cloud Save, Cloud Code and Leaderboards |
| Chat messages. Messages you send in World, Order or Private chat, with your display name and level, and the time sent. Your player ID is attached so replies and blocking work. | To run player chat. Messages are filtered, other players can report them, and a report sends the reported message to us for moderation. | Unity Vivox (text chat) and Cloud Code (reports) |
| Order data (only if you use Orders): your player ID, an auto-generated display name, your role in the Order, when you joined, the Order’s name and settings, your player level when you join or request to join, and donation totals. | To run the Order feature: browsing, joining, rosters, donations and leadership. | Unity Cloud Save and Cloud Code |
| Text you type for others to see. Currently the name you give an Order you create. | Shown to other players. Names are checked by an automatic filter and can be reported (see section 6). | Unity Cloud Save |
| Reports you send about another player’s Order: your player ID, the Order, the reason and the time. | Moderation and keeping the Game safe. | Unity Cloud Save (not visible to other players) |
| Game progress: your character, items, currencies, settings and tutorial progress. | So you can continue playing. | A save file on your device; also a cloud copy if you create a login (see above) |
| Advertising and device data collected by our ad partner when a rewarded ad is loaded or shown: advertising identifier, IP address, device model, operating system, and ad interaction data. | To show and measure ads, prevent fraud, and pay for the Game. | Unity LevelPlay and its ad network partners (see section 4) |
| Purchase information: which item you bought and a purchase receipt or token. We never see your card or payment details. | To deliver what you bought and restore it if you reinstall. | Apple App Store or Google Play, via Unity In-App Purchasing |
| Technical data such as device type, operating system version, app version, crash and diagnostic information, and IP address, collected by Unity’s services when the Game connects to them. | To keep the services running, secure and stable. | Unity’s servers |
The Game does not use your microphone, camera, contacts or precise location, and does not offer voice chat. Text chat is described in section 6.
3. How we use information
- To provide and improve the Game, including the Order feature, the Arena, player chat, cloud save and in-app purchases.
- To show rewarded ads that you choose to watch.
- To keep the Game fair and safe: preventing abuse, moderating names, chat messages and reports, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your information for money, and we do not build profiles to sell to third parties.
4. Who else receives information
We use service providers who process information for us or on their own behalf as described in their policies:
- Unity Technologies — Authentication, Cloud Save, Cloud Code, Leaderboards, Vivox (text chat), In-App Purchasing and LevelPlay ads. See unity.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Ad networks working through LevelPlay — may receive your advertising identifier and device data to serve and measure ads.
- Apple and Google — process your purchases under their own terms and privacy policies.
Other players can see the display name, role and level of members of an Order you are in, the name of any Order you create, your display name, level and Arena standing when you appear in the Arena, and the messages you post in chat (World chat is visible to everyone, Order chat to your Order, Private messages to the person you send them to). We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or merger of our business.
5. Your choices and rights
- Ads. Ads are optional and only shown when you choose to watch one. You can limit ad tracking in your device settings (“Limit Ad Tracking”/“Allow Apps to Request to Track” on Apple devices, “Delete advertising ID” or ads personalisation controls on Android). Where the law requires it, the Game will ask for your consent first.
- Delete your account in the Game. Open Settings > Account > Delete account. This removes you from your Order (and disbands it if you are its Grandmaster), deletes your Arena data and your cloud save, deletes your Unity Authentication account, and resets the Game on your device. It cannot be undone. Full steps are on this page.
- Delete your account by email. If you cannot open the Game, email storiesofshinobu@gmail.com with your Player ID (shown in Settings > Account) and we will delete the online data we hold about you, usually within 30 days.
- Access and correction. Email us at the same address and we will look up or correct the online data we hold about you. Deleting the Game alone only removes the save file on your device, not your online data.
- Leaving an Order removes you from its roster. If you are an Order’s Grandmaster you can disband it, which deletes the Order.
- Where you live. Depending on your country or state (for example the EU/UK, or California and other US states) you may have additional rights, such as objecting to certain processing, receiving a copy of your data, or lodging a complaint with a data-protection authority. Contact us and we will honour them.
6. Player-created content, chat and reports
Order names and chat messages are visible to other players. An automatic filter blocks many inappropriate names and messages (the chat filter is always on), but it is not perfect. Every Order in the browse list has a Report button, and every chat message from another player can be reported, or the player blocked. Orders that are reported by several different players are hidden from the browse list until we review them. Reports are kept so we can act on repeated abuse; a chat report includes the reported message, the sender’s player ID and name, and the channel it was posted in.
Text chat is provided by Unity Vivox, which processes your messages and player ID on our behalf and keeps recent message history so chats can load when you open them. Do not share personal information in chat; other players can read it.
7. Children
The Game is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. In some countries the minimum age to consent to data processing is higher than 13 (up to 16); if that applies to you, you must be at least that age or have a parent’s permission. If you believe a child has used the Game, contact us and we will delete the related data.
8. How long we keep information
- Order data is kept while the Order exists. Disbanding an Order deletes it.
- Your cloud save, Arena data and login are kept until you delete your account (in the Game or by email) or ask us to delete them.
- Chat messages are kept by Unity Vivox for a limited period under its own retention settings. Deleting your account does not recall messages other players have already received.
- Reports are kept for as long as needed for moderation, then deleted.
- Your anonymous player ID and technical data are kept while the Game is in service, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Data held by Unity, Apple, Google and ad networks is kept under their own policies.
9. Security and international transfers
We rely on the security of our providers’ platforms and limit what we store. No system is perfectly secure. Our providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States, using safeguards required by law.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make important changes we will update the date at the top and, where required, tell you in the Game. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated policy.
